Job summary The Maternity Link Support Worker (MLSW) will focus on supporting the Local Maternity and Neonatal System (LMNS) to implement plans for improving better outcomes for pregnantwomenfrom the global majority (translating in Urdu), by supporting delivery of clear communications, advocacy, Continuity of Career, as well as ensuring support with digital inclusion and health promotion and literacy.
The post holder will work closely with Maternity Teams, both within community and hospitals, local third sector organisations and Family Hubs.
The service will provide wraparound care and access to well-being service provision, based in a community setting.
The service aims to improve the outcomes of women from the global majority throughout their pregnancy who are at the highest risks of experiencing complications and who can become peer support champions within their localities through their lived experience.
Main duties of the job The Birmingham & Solihull United Maternity & Newborn Partnership (Bump) is the Local Maternity and Neonatal System (LMNS) across Birmingham & Solihull.
The Bump team is dedicated to supporting maternity care across the LMNS, implementing the recommendations of "Better Births" by delivering the National, Infant Mortality Programme, and Maternity Transformation Programme.
This role will support the LMNS to address equity and equality to improve better outcomes for mothers and babies from Black, Asian, and Mixed ethnic groups and those living in the most deprived areas.
This role will involve advocating and supporting pregnant woman and birthing people throughout their maternity Journey.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential NVQ Level 3 in Health care or equivalent Key Skills - literacy/numeracy Desirable GCSE pass in English Language or equivalent Trained in Making Every Contact Count and Motivational Interviewing Level 3 Award in British Sign Language or equivalent Level 3 Certificate in Community Interpreting or equivalent Knowledge & Experience Essential Able to demonstrate an understanding of health outcomes for ethnic minority women during pregnancy Healthy lifestyle/behavioural change experience Ability to work independently and as part of a team Desirable Experience of providing support to women with ethnic minority backgrounds aligned to their social needs Experience working with pregnant women Previous experience in healthcare in the NHS Baby friendly standards training certificate Audit skills Evidence of working with vulnerable patients requiring specialist support Professional/ Managerial/ Specialist Knowledge Essential Excellent and accurate data entry skills Desirable Experience of BadgerNet or patient records management system European Computer Driving License certification, or equivalent PERSONAL SKILLS / ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES Essential Proficient in reading and writing in the English language Motivational qualities Good written communication skills and computer skills Good IT skills and use of Microsoft Office An ability to speak one of our community languages/ dialects: Urdu/ Bengali/ Arabic/ Pashto/ Somalian/ Romanian/ Patois/ Tigrinya Reliable, punctual, and flexible across hours of work when required Ability to cope with stress Ability to present an open and non-judgemental demeanour Desirable An ability to read/ write one of our community languages/ dialects: Urdu/ Bengali/ Arabic/ Pashto/ Somalian/ Romanian/Patois/Tigrinya Experience of providing support to women with ethnic minority backgrounds aligned to their social needs OTHER REQUIREMENTS Essential Confidentiality May be required to work in other teams and localities as required.
