Job summary West Street Surgery looking to recruit a full-time receptionist / administrator to join our busy practice.Applicants should be flexible and able to work in a busy environment.
Time will be split between working in reception and administration.Essential skills include good communication, a willingness to learn with the ability to use own initiative and be part of the team.Access to a variety of training courses, internal training and a comprehensive induction will enable the right person to thrive in a demanding setting.
Main duties of the job The purpose of the role is to: Offer general assistance to the practice teamand project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors,either in person or via the telephone Receive, assist and direct patients in accessingthe appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficientand effective way Undertake a variety of administrative duties toassist in the smooth running of the practice, including the provision ofclerical support to clinical staff and other members of the practice team Facilitate effective communication betweenpatients, members of the primary health care team, secondary care and otherassociated healthcare agencies About us West Street Surgery is a busy,dynamic, well managed GMS Practice based in Dunstable, South Bedfordshire.
Situated on the Bucks and Herts Borders,Dunstable is easily accessible from Milton Keynes, Aylesbury, Leighton Buzzard,Harpenden and St Albans.
The practice is located on the edge of the town, closeto the Chiltern Hills, Dunstable Downs and Whipsnade.
The practice boundaryextends out to include many of the local rural villages.We have 2 GP partners, 3 salaried GPs, 2 PAs, 4 Pharmacists, 3 Nurse Prescribers, 3 Practice Nurses, a HCA Phlebotomist and 2 Care Co-ordinators as well as a large admin/reception team.

Job description Job responsibilities The duties andresponsibilities to be undertaken by members of the practice receptionteam may include any or all of the items in the following list.
Duties may be varied from time to time underthe direction of the Reception Manager/Practice Manager, dependent on currentand evolving practice workload and staffing levels:Opening up/locking up of practice premises and maintaining security in accordance with practice protocolsUndertaking a variety of Reception tasks following induction and trainingMaintaining and monitoring the practice appointments systemProcessing personal and telephone requests for appointments, visits and telephone consultations, and ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate healthcare professionalProcessing and distributing incoming (and outgoing) mailProcessing direct patient communications received through website and email channels, scanning, summarising and coding.Taking messages and passing on informationFiling and retrieving paperworkProcessing repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice guidelinesComputer data entry/data allocation and collation; processing and recording information in accordance with practice proceduresInitiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team member and associated healthcare agencies and providersProviding clerical assistance to practice staff as required, including word/data processing, filing, photocopying and scanning Person Specification Qualifications Essential GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths Desirable Qualification in Health and Social Care Experience Desirable Previous experience working in General Practice would be desirable.
