Job summary We are looking to recruit either existing, or Graduate Band5 Occupational Therapists onto our physical specialities rotation based betweenSouth Tyneside Hospital, Sunderland Royal Hospital, Sunderland Recovery at Homeand South Tyneside Recovery at Home.This is a great opportunity to develop clinical skills within severaldifferent teams while working with a diverse range of patients and theirpresenting conditions.
The rotation covers the following specialities:South Tyneside Hospital Medicine, Care of the Elderly, Orthopaedics/Surgery.Sunderland Royal Hospital Medicine and Surgery, Care ofthe Elderly, Acute Stroke/Neurology, Interface Team, Trauma and Orthopaedics.Independent Living Centre Sunderland Recovery at HomeTherapy Team.Clarendon, Hebburn South Tyneside Recovery at HomeTherapy Team.Our teams are large, friendly and supportive andsupervision will be provided by a senior therapist.
We are also proud to have an established andproactive Band 5 support group who plan their own CPD activities and providepeer support.
We also have excellentlinks with our community partners to all work better together for the people ofSouth Tyneside and Sunderland and the surrounding areas.
Main duties of the job Our rotation gives the opportunity to experience OTintervention with patients throughout the whole acute patient journey.
Our Interface Team work into ED and shortstay areas to help prevent hospital admission or facilitate discharge; our OTinpatient teams assess patients for discharge from base wards and our Recoveryat Home Therapy Team assess patients at home on discharge from hospital as wellas responding to situations to help prevent admission to hospital.
All teams work to the nationally drivenprinciples of Home First and Discharge to Assess.
In each area you will be responsible forassessing the functional needs of your patients and assessing for any necessaryaids or equipment.
You will need to haveexcellent organisation and time management skills, interpersonal andcommunication skills, and have the ability to document your patientinterventions.
Due to the need to visitpatients homes as part of the assessment and intervention process, you must beable to meet the travel requirements of the role.Allposts are full-time, hours per week.For inpatient areas the working pattern is Monday to Friday, withsome weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.
The Interface Team work shifts across sevendays working three days one week and four days the next, including someweekends and bank holidays.
The Recovery at Home Therapy Team covers 8am to 8pm over seven days with theoption to work hours flexibly over either four or five days per week.

Person Specification Experience Essential Experience as a student Occupational Therapist in a physical health setting.
Desirable Experience of working, either paid or voluntary, within a care or therapy setting.
Acute hospital placement experience.
Qualifications Essential Recognised degree in Occupational Therapy (completed or pending completion for new graduates).
HCPC registration (application pending for new graduates on confirmation of passing degree).
Desirable Membership of Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT).
Skills and Knowledge Essential Developed verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Proven written communication skills including report writing and maintaining patient records.
Able to demonstrate analytical & judgmental skills.
Skills to prioritise workload and make judgements on priorities when there are several competing demands.
Able to present information, written and orally in a clear and logical manner.
Basic IT skills.
Presentational skills.
Knowledge and understanding of South Tyneside and Sunderland Foundation Trust, its culture, strategic direction & achievements.
Basic knowledge of adaptive aids and equipment used to facilitate functional independence.
Knowledge of current legislation and guidelines which underpin practice.
Desirable Knowledge of community and local authority services relevant to Sunderland, South Tyneside and surrounding areas.
Intermediate IT skills.
Knowledge of standard wheelchairs and the indications for safe use.
Physical Skills Essential Ability to engage in physical activity throughout the day and undertake moving and handling assessments with and without the use of equipment.
Ability to sit at a workstation as necessary to complete administrative aspects of the post.
Ability to drive the department vehicles.
Ability to work in restricted spaces where there is a requirement to bend, or kneel down.
Ability to lift and carry equipment ie.
Toilet or bathing equipment used for assessments.
