Job summary A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the Planning, Partnerships and Strategy Directorate at the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust.The post is for a Senior Strategy & Planning Manager on a one year fixed term contract or secondment.The Senior Strategy & Planning Manager will work within the team to provide an effective strategy and planning function that takes account of national and local strategic planning requirements.
The post-holder will play a key role in this work by: Supporting work to ensure that the organisations strategic vision, aims and objectives remain relevant and up to date; Working with the Associate Director and Chief of Planning, Partnerships and Strategy manage and co-ordinate the development of the Trusts Annual Operating Plan Developing and leading the process for monitoring and management of the Trusts Annual Operating Plan ensuring senior managers are fully briefed on progress Ensuring awareness and understanding emerging national and regional policies within the Trusts corporate team Helping to build the capacity and capability of strategy and planning work across the organisation; This is a fantastic opportunity to join an excellent team at an ambitious Teaching NHS Trust.
Main duties of the job The Senior Strategy & Planning Manager will be responsible for providing an effective strategy and planning function that takes account of national and local strategic planning requirements.
The post-holder will play a key role in this work by: Supporting work to ensure that the organisations strategic vision, aims and objectives remain relevant and up to date; Working with the Associate Director manage and co-ordinate the development of the Trusts Annual Operating Plan Developing and leading the process for monitoring and management of the Trusts Annual Operating Plan ensuring senior managers are fully briefed on progress Ensuring awareness and understanding emerging national and regional policies within the Trusts corporate team Helping to build the capacity and capability of strategy and planning work across the organisation; Providing/supporting corporate leadershipThe post holder will be experienced in project management, process creation, strategic planning and building and fostering relationships internally and with external stakeholders to support the delivery of the organisations strategic aims.
There will also be involvement in wider projects and opportunities to develop broad and varied relationships.

Coordinating themeetings, agreeing the agendas with the Executive Directors, coordinatingpapers from Divisions and attending the meetings to gain awareness of deliveryagainst plansSupport the Associate Director in the provision and facilitation of highquality strategy development events and workshopsBe the department lead supporting the development of service specificstrategies working with Divisions and Directorates.
Ensuring clear alignmentwith the Trusts overall strategyCorporatePlanningProvide senior manager support to the AssociateDirector in the development and implementation of the Trusts corporate planningprocessesProject scoping and managing delivery of Annual OperatingPlans, supporting and challenging divisions in the business and operationalplanning ensuring timescales are met and all responsible individuals are awareof their obligations Be an expert on the NHS Operational Planning Guidance,providing advice to all levels of the Trust on planning and operationalrequirements and expectationsSupport the planning processes internally and externally, ensuring that they run effectively and smoothly, and to agreed timetables.
This will involve arranging and attending meetings with key planning leads and representatives from Divisions and Directorates, presenting in Director level meetings with commissioners and facilitating a strong relationship through these meetings Lead and manage themonitoring of the Annual Operating Plan liaising with Divisions andDirectorates to understand progress, risks, issues and escalations Develop reports forExecutive Directors and Trust Board that effectively communicate the progressin delivering the Annual Operating Plan highlighting achievements, risks andissues Work proactively withDivisions and Directorates to support them in developing their Annual OperatingPlan responses that support the delivery of the Trusts annual planningobjectives Develop and maintainappropriate networks and relationships that will support the Trusts approachto strategy and planningMonitoring andInterpreting PolicyResponsible for implementing and managing a process to monitor andhorizon scan for relevant national policy and guidance and develop briefingsfor senior managers and Executive Directors Procurementand TenderingTosupport the Trust in the development and submission of tender submissions andprocurement opportunities related to commissioner discussions and requirementsfor information related to thisTo provide advice and guidance to Divisions onthe effective completion of tender submissions, ensuring a central log ismaintained and submissions are checked from a Trust perspectiveCommunicationTo develop strong and mature working relationshipswith divisions, commissioners and other providers to ensure alignment andconsistency of planning processesContribute to effective working relationshipswithin the Trust and with external stakeholders particularly in relation to thedevelopment of the Trusts Quality AccountDevelopand maintain clear channels of communication within the health community as awhole, crossing professional and organisational boundaries where necessary, aswell as within the TrustManage the Planning & Partnerships IntranetSite, providing full information on commissioning activities and resourcesHelping to build the capacity and capability of strategy and planning work across the organisationFinancial / BusinessManagementEnsure the Trusts planning approachhas an effective process for the management of business cases and investmentrequests including monitoring benefits realisedGeneralManage members of the Planning & Partnerships Team as requiredUndertake internal training sessions with clinical and management leads and divisional managers on strategy and planning processesRegular use of a computer and VDU on a day to day basis and travel between hospital sites where appropriate Person Specification Skills Essential Excellent organisational and time management skills.
