Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with special educational needs?

Do you have the empathy, resilience, and skills to help students reach their full potential in a supportive, nurturing environment?

If so, we would love to hear from you

About the school:
A dynamic and inclusive school dedicated to supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including dyslexia, ADHD, trauma, and other complex learning needs. The school provides a safe, structured, and compassionate learning environment where every student is encouraged to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

They believe in fostering strong relationships between staff and students to create a positive and effective learning space. Their dedicated team works tirelessly to ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed, and are now looking for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their supportive school.

About the Role:
As a HLTA for secondary aged students, you will play a vital role in supporting both students and teachers within the classroom and beyond. You will work alongside our teachers to provide tailored educational support, contributing to the progress of students with SEND. You’ll be working with students who face a range of barriers to learning, including dyslexia, ADHD, emotional and behavioural difficulties, and those who have experienced trauma. Your role will be essential in ensuring these young people have access to quality education, developing their academic and social skills, and helping them manage their emotional well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

* Work closely with teachers to plan and deliver differentiated learning activities in line with students’ individual education plans (IEPs).

* Lead small group sessions and one-to-one interventions, targeting literacy, numeracy, and emotional well-being.

* Provide targeted support to students with ADHD, dyslexia, trauma, and other SEND needs.

* Assist in the development and adaptation of learning materials to ensure accessibility for all students.

* Take on a key pastoral role, supporting students’ emotional and social development.

* Work collaboratively with the SENDCo and other staff to monitor and track student progress, contributing to reviews and assessments.

* Support the development of student independence through scaffolded learning strategies and behaviour management techniques.

* Provide in-class support for students during lessons, ensuring a calm and positive learning environment.

* Act as a role model for students, demonstrating calmness, empathy, and resilience, even in challenging situations.

* Provide feedback to teachers and contribute to the continuous improvement of classroom practice.

Qualifications and Experience:

* HLTA qualification or equivalent (Level 4 or higher) is essential.

* Previous experience working with students with SEND, preferably in a secondary school setting, or a willingness to work with KS3/KS4 students.

* A good understanding of the specific needs related to dyslexia, ADHD, and trauma-informed education.

* Proven ability to manage challenging behaviours with empathy, patience, and a calm demeanour.

* Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures.

* Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

Personal Attributes:

* Calm, patient, and resilient in the face of challenging behaviour.

* Empathetic and understanding of the individual needs of SEND students.

* Positive and proactive, with a passion for helping students overcome barriers to learning.

* Strong organizational skills and the ability to work flexibly as part of a team.

* A commitment to promoting inclusion and diversity within the school community.
