Associate Director

The Company
Have you got a wealth of experience as a Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer?
Have you got experience working on Civil Engineering projects across any of the following disciplines: Water treatment, Highways structures, Rail Structures, Waterways, Reservoirs, Dams, Flood defence, Piling and Culverts?
Are you the 'Oracle' in your current business? The person they all turn to for ideas and solutions around engineering and design? If this sounds like you then read on....
We are looking to procure an “Associate Director”, to take up a board level role within a Structural and Civil Engineering Design Consultancy, providing technical oversight of their engineering division while helping shape the progression and growth of the business.
They work on a range of Civil Engineering frameworks (50%) for end user agencies as well as one off projects for private owners and main contractors. Their schemes span the UK and abroad, requiring very little business development to procure due to their unrivalled reputation.
Their clients recognise their expertise in the market and find them both extremely professional yet affordable.
The Role
Reporting into the Board and working alongside the Engineering Team Manager, the “Associate Director” will provide technical oversight, direction and support to the engineering team. They will likely take up a “Project Lead” role on larger projects while providing input across the whole business portfolio.
Although supporting the team with their ongoing development (including paths toward chartership with ICE, IStructE), the role will be fairly ‘hands off’ when it comes to day to day line management. The joys of engineering without the ties of team management What a treat
Key duties will include:
Bid Management, quotations and tenders
Project approval and sign-off
Technical oversight and direction of all projects
Project lead on Major schemes, including the production of technical design drawings
Review and approval of CDM (2015) documentation for various roles (Principal Contractor, Principal Designer, Contractor, Designer etc,).
Lead/Attend meetings – Design reviews, ECI meetings, client meetings
Value Engineering
Commercial and contractual appraisal and management In addition, the “Associate Director” will look inwardly, to ensure the business continually improves as they grow, auditing systems and procedures to encourage best practise. The successful candidate will be integral in shaping the future of the business.
The right candidate
We are looking for candidates who want to become THE Engineering resource for a business. The sage, the problem solver, the 'go-to' for ideas and solutions around engineering.
Commutable to either Exeter or Plymouth
Circa 15+ years experience
Chartered Engineer – Structural or Civil Engineering background – BSc / MSc, BEng / MEng, CEng, MICE, MIStructE – (Ideally structurally biased)
Ideal experience: Water treatment, Highways / Civil Engineering Structures, Waterways, Reservoirs, Dams, Flood defence, RC Concrete and Piling
Genuine passion for engineering
Commercial and contractually astute – knowledge of NEC forms of contract beneficial
CDM Experience and knowledge of British Standards or, preferably, Euro codes Whats in it for you:
The starting point here is a really lovely firm to work for. Friendly, personable and warm, with a genuine passion for engineering and problem solving.
You will be working on genuinely interesting projects with bucket loads of variety.
You will personally help carve out the future of the business. Salary and Benefits
