Financial Controller

Involve Recruitment are in search of a Financial Controller for our client a specialist construction contractor. The position of Finance Controller is considered a key role within the business as it strives for growth. This role oversees the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department and provides financial information as required to support the Board of Directors and the wider business. Experience and understanding of the need for continuous development of management information to improve profitability and cash flow management are essential.
The role ensures the complete and accurate capture and reporting of all company financial transactions. Robust commercial review of financial information is required to ensure profit is maximised and financial controls are adhered to in order to protect the company’s financial security.
The role requires a hands on approach and spans the end to end finance processes of the company.
Main Responsibilities:
* Day to day responsibility for the company’s financial operations including all bank transactions, management of accounts receivable, accounts payable and company assets
* Preparation of monthly management accounts including preparation of all monthly journals, schedules and reconciliations
* Preparation of finance Board Meeting presentation
* Preparation and management of monthly payroll and company pension scheme, including the interface with Sage HR system and cash plan administration
* Management and payment of employee expenses
* Preparation and submission of HMRC returns including CIS, VAT and PAYE
* Principal liaison with external auditors and tax advisors for annual financial audit, preparation of financial statements and corporation tax return
* Preparation of annual budget for Board approval
* Building relationships with non-finance colleagues within the business offering a finance perspective on operations and issues where appropriate
* Finance Assistant line manager providing support for their role and training where required to encourage their personal development
The above is not exhaustive, additional tasks may be assigned as required by the Managing Director.
Preferred Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Attributes:
* Qualified Accountant
* Sage Line 50 and Sage payroll experience
* MS Excel Proficiency
* Proven practical application of technical accounting and tax knowledge, ideally including CIS and domestic reverse charge VAT
* Strong commercial acumen
* A keen attention to detail and organisational skills
* Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

Conditions of Employment:
* This position is based in Brecon Office
* Hybrid working, working from home up to 2 days a week
* The hours are 08:30hrs to 17:00 hrs. (one hour for lunch).
* In addition to bank holidays, the annual holiday allowance is 24 days, 4 of which are designated company days and are taken over the Christmas period on dates determined by the Board
