Your typical day could start with a period of reflection about your own recovery journey and what things helped you whilst meeting with a resident who is seeking your support. Then you might be helping a resident find a local substance use agency for their drug or alcohol addiction before you assist a support worker run a group activity for residents on understanding their responsibilities when paying their bills.

As a Peer Worker, you'll be the face and the heart of your Peabody community, playing a crucial role supporting the practical needs and wellbeing of residents. With a particular focus on supporting residents who have a desire to develop their own recovery techniques whilst you draw on your own experience. You'll actively support residents to develop a sense of hope, confidence, and acceptance by sharing (but not imposing) your personal experiences of recovery.

You'll appreciate what recovery looks like from your own personal experience of mental ill health and drug/alcohol issues, to developing your own recovery plan. You'll be first rate at building a rapport with residents which will allow you to best manage their behaviour which can be challenging at times due to their past trauma. You'll need to be able to work 15 hours per week over three days in the supported housing scheme.

Your roles covers all aspects of peer support, drawing upon your own personal experiences which includes helping residents to develop coping skills or promoting their understanding. To be successful in this role, you’re:

* Knowledgeable of the principles of recovery focused support and/or trauma informed practice.

* Able to assist people who have mental health and drug alcohol issues and develop their own recovery plan.

* Able to motivate, build rapport and share personal experience.

* Able to provide excellent customer service including advice and assistance on independent life skills and 'moving on'.

* Able to research, identify, promote and execute activities to support an individual's wellbeing and be willing to undertake specialist peer support training.
