Job Introduction
This exciting new role based in Stafford welcomes enthusiastic applicants to be involved in shaping a novel service for people experiencing homelessness (including street homelessness) to engage with essential services such as mental health support, healthcare, substance misuse services and long-term housing options.
The service has a dual focus:
Proactive outreach support to people experiencing street homelessness
Provision of a bespoke 6 bedroomed accommodation service for people with experience of homelessness and complex needs which may include mental health, substance misuse and physical health needs.
At Turning Point, we support people across the UK with mental health issues. You will make a real difference to their lives as you work closely with them to help them achieve their potential. Turning Point has several well-established services within Staffordshire. You will form part of a wider supportive management team within the region and there is the opportunity for growth in the future.
Role Responsibility
You will inspire and embed a culture of involvement and co-production by working in partnership with people with lived experience of homelessness by championing a shift in power so the voice of the target population is at the centre of decision-making about design and accessibility of service pathways that support them.
You will reach out to people with lived experience of homelessness to understand their needs and aspirations, as well as linking in with key partners across health, housing and homeless services.
You will provide support to the Operations Manager in the delivery of the support model and where required deputise for the role. You will also provide coaching, advice and guidance to other staff and be part of an on-call system.
You will support the local team to build a continually developing community, not just a service, with true power-sharing at its core. This will be achieved by listening to the outcomes people sincerely value, recognising the assets they have, and respecting the expertise people bring to decision-making and evaluation processes.
The Ideal Candidate
Ideally you will have relevant lived experience through directly using health and social care services or supporting someone that has or does. You will have extensive history or knowledge of homelessness and rough sleeping and experience of inspiring confidence with homelessness and rough sleepers and able to encourage their involvement.
Additionally, you will thoroughly understand approaches and best practices around involvement and co-production, and challenges and strategies to engage and empower people who often don’t have the opportunity for their voice to be heard.
You will be confident and resilient, with the ability to work with and lead on aspects of the service development. You will have passion, energy, and enthusiasm.
Having good written and verbal communication skills and knowledge of IT and digital systems is important as well.
