Embrace the Rewarding Journey of Supporting Students with SEMH and ASD
Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of students with special educational needs? Our Partner School in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, is dedicated to providing exceptional support and education for students aged 11 to 16 who experience challenges due to Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We are looking for a committed SEN Secondary Teacher who is available from November onwards and is eager to create a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Why You’ll Love Working with our Partner School:
Specialised Environment: As a school tailored for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), you’ll be part of a community that prioritizes individualised learning and emotional support, allowing you to make a profound impact on students’ lives.
Collaborative Atmosphere: You'll work alongside a passionate team of teachers, therapists, and support staff who share your commitment to student success, creating a nurturing and supportive environment.
Personalised Attention: With smaller class sizes of 10 pupils and under, you’ll have the opportunity to provide more personalised attention and tailored instruction, fostering stronger relationships with your students and enhancing their learning experiences.
Whole-Child Approach: The school’s emphasis on emotional, social, and academic growth means you can engage in holistic teaching practices that support not just educational attainment but also personal development.
Growth and Learning: The school encourages continuous professional development, providing you with opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge in SEN education, ensuring you stay informed of the latest teaching strategies and best practices.
Welcoming Environment: Being part of a diverse and inclusive community, you'll foster a sense of belonging among students, staff, and families, contributing to a positive school culture.
Transformative Role: Witnessing the progress and achievements of students who may have faced significant challenges in mainstream education can be incredibly rewarding. Your role will be instrumental in helping them overcome obstacles and reach their potential.
Idyllic Setting: Bury St Edmunds is a charming town known for its historic architecture and beautiful parks, offering a pleasant living and working environment that enhances your overall teaching experience.
Engaged Community: You’ll have the chance to work closely with parents and guardians, forming partnerships that enhance the support and encouragement provided to students.
Recognition of Success: The school culture promotes celebrating student successes, big or small, creating a positive atmosphere that motivates both students and staff.
Teaching at our Partner School offers not just a job, but a rewarding career where you can inspire and uplift students with SEN, making a lasting difference in their lives.
SEN Secondary Teacher Job Overview:
The successful candidate will plan and deliver high-quality lessons that meet the diverse needs of our students with SEMH and ASD. You will coordinate daily teaching, assessment, and pastoral care for a small group of pupils, ensuring each child receives the support they need to succeed. Your collaboration with the SENDCo and local authorities will be essential in addressing the varied learning and pastoral needs of the pupils, helping them overcome obstacles and reach their full potential.
SEN Secondary Teacher Responsibilities:
Engage a small group of SEN pupils, adapting lessons to accommodate their unique learning styles and challenges.
Create a quality learning environment where all pupils can progress according to their Individual Learning Plans or EHCPs.
Collaborate closely with the SENDCo to monitor and enhance student development in social communication and overall well-being.
Provide pastoral support and guidance, ensuring the welfare of every student in your care.
Foster a positive and safe learning environment that encourages high expectations for behaviour and academic achievement.
Serve as the primary point of contact for parents, keeping them informed about their child's progress and celebrating their successes.
Oversee the daily needs of your small group of pupils, ensuring a smooth and effective learning experience.
Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, supporting the overall learning environment.
Communicate with local authorities regarding funding, EHCPs, and pupil reviews, advocating for the best interests of your students.
SEN Secondary Teacher Requirements:
Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
Experience: Strong understanding of SEMH and ASD issues and their impact on learning and behaviour.
Skills: Ability to differentiate instruction and build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families.
Commitment: A genuine passion for making a difference in the lives of young people, promoting inclusion, equality, and diversity.
Why Choose Us?
Competitive Salary: Enjoy a competitive salary and benefits package.
Supportive Environment: Join a collaborative team that prioritizes your professional development and career progression.
