Experienced Functional Safety Engineer to join our Client’s Engineering team to support the development of safety requirements for all their projects. You will work closely with the various design teams and their supply base to ensure that they launch safe designs across their customer base.

Functional Safety Engineer Role:

• Support cross-functional development teams on functional safety matters across the entire development and verification cycle.

• Provide guidance and support on the various Functional Safety requirements such as Item Definition, Hazard Identification, Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments.

• Drive the development of best practice procedures for functional safety activities.

• Develop and maintain the functional safety requirements management system to ensure traceability across the functional safety lifecycle of projects.

• Act as a single point of accountability for the delivery of the various functional safety work products.

• Present reasoned safety analysis and arguments as a means of educating stakeholders and influencing design decisions.

• Participate at technical reviews and supplier workshops.

• Create and maintain formal documents such as HARA, Safety Plans, FSC, TSC, FMEA, Safety Case and DIA.

• Keep status trackers up to date, showing status of all responsible projects.

• Cooperate with the project manager, the development team and customers. Liaise with suppliers to ensure achievement of safety requirements.

• Carry out Functional Safety Audits.

• Undertake all duties in line with General Data Protection and maintain utmost level of confidentiality.

• Ensure work is completed to meet the requirements of the ISO 9001 standard.

• Ensure that you treat those with whom they come into contact in a courteous and respectful manner in accordance with the Dignity at Work Procedure.

Functional Safety Engineer Requirements:

Essential:
• BEng Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years electrical / electronics / software design experience.
• Previous experience in a functional safety role working in accordance with a relevant international standard.
• Evidence of ISO 26262 certification and training.
• Demonstratable detailed understanding of ISO 26262.
• Ability to conduct and review HARA, FTA and FMEA etc.
• Experience of Functional Safety Management Systems.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Strong technical reporting skills.
• Highly motivated and positive attitude.
• Creative and innovative.
• Analytical mindset.
• Structured approach.
• Ability to maintain detailed records.
• Ability to be flexible and adaptable to meet the changing requirements of the role.

Desirable:
• MEng degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Knowledge of chassis powertrain and driveline systems.
• Knowledge of Electric Vehicle Power Electronics.
• Knowledge of Hybrid Vehicle Power Electrics and control systems.
• Knowledge of traction battery systems.
• Understanding of coding/classification systems, parts listings, BOMs and standardisation.
