Working Type: Full Time

Northern Education Trust (NET) is a charitable education Trust with a track record for school improvement. The Trust sponsors 29 academies; 16 secondary and 13 primaries across the North of England in thirteen Local Authority regions.

Are you ‘Outcomes Focussed, Child Centred’? Do you have a no excuses mentality? Do you understand the difference between aspiration and expectation? Do you have the drive, passion and commitment to deliver outstanding outcomes for students that completely destroy the myth that those from disadvantaged communities cannot achieve well? Are you capable of inspirational leadership that supports all school staff and young people? If so, becoming a NET leader might just be the best career move you ever make.

Northern Education Trust is seeking a motivated and ambitious leader with a passion for educational excellence to become the senior director of maths for the trust’s secondary academies. If you are an inspirational role model, eager to make a positive, lasting difference to young people’s life chances, we want to hear from you.

About NET

We are extremely proud to be one of the highest performing trusts in the country, with GCSE results above 70% and 50% English and maths 4+ and 5+ cross respectively. All trust academies inspected by Ofted have been judged to be good or outstanding.

We have an exemplary reputation for creating calm and orderly high cultures, based on very high expectations of our students. We expect our students to achieve well and enter an exceptionally high amount of our students for the ambitious and aspirant Ebacc pathway.

The trust received an Ofsted MAT Summary Evaluation in 2022. In the words of Ofsted, we have ‘transformed the schools in the trust and the experiences and life chances of the pupils who attend them’ and ‘schools that have recently joined the trust have undergone monumental improvements that are life changing for pupils and staff’. This review acknowledged the excellent work across the trust and we are rightly very proud of all our students and staff, with the following key points worthy of note:

● Leaders and staff are committed to providing the best possible quality of education for every pupil.

● Leaders’ vision that ‘we are the trust’ is exceptionally well understood and implemented by staff across all schools. Leaders see the trust as ‘one school over many sites’. There is no real distinction between trust leaders and school leaders. Leaders at all levels are ambitious for pupils. They walk the schools regularly. They talk to pupils and gather detailed information about how well pupils are learning the curriculum and how they are feeling.

● Pupils also feel the benefit of being part of Northern Education Trust. They enjoy getting together with pupils from across the trust at events such as ‘NETfest’, a concert that celebrates the performing arts. Leaders communicate well with the wider community that each school serves.

● All leaders, abiding by the trust’s mantra, are ‘outcomes-focused, child-centred.’ They ensure that staff across the trust focus on the pupils and that they are successful in what they do. Trustees have an accurate view of how well pupils achieve. Overall, published outcomes across the trust are exceptionally strong.

● All staff contribute to the trust’s strategies. Staff at all levels are effusive about working in the trust. Many of them have had multiple opportunities to develop in their roles and achieve promotions. Leaders provide high-quality training for staff and governors through Northern Education Trust’s staff college.

● Reading runs through the curriculum in each school like letters through a stick of rock. Leaders have prioritised reading in every subject and at every point in the curriculum. There is a relentless focus for pupils of all ages, and at all stages, to read fluently and enjoy the experience.

● Corridors and classrooms in every school echo with the sound of regular applause. Pupils cannot wait to show off their work in their ‘PROUD’ moments across the week.

The trust has recently embarked on a period of rapid growth and will become a trust of 30 academies from January 2025. The CEO is determined to ensure that growth does not come at the expense of compromising the quality of provision for our current students and we understand it is imperative that outcomes for our children continue to be exceptionally strong at all phases. However, we are also keen to make a difference in areas where we are needed and the trust continues to consider further growth if it supports a wider sector movement towards removing the postcode lottery that, unfortunately, children in some communities are still the victim of.

What the role involves

● As senior director of maths you will play a crucial role in securing outstanding outcomes for children at the end of Key Stage 4 and 5. You will remain a practitioner and teach y11 key students in at least one trust secondary close to your base

● You will provide strategic and operational oversight of the delivery of maths across the trust, including adapting, amending or refining the maths curriculum from Key Stage 3 to 5.

● You will work systematically to implement NET’s tried and tested NORTHERN model of school improvement across all trust secondary academies

● You will line manage a team of 8 supernumerary maths directors, coordinating their deployment to ensure the best possible outcomes for students and rapidly improving provision at all stages

● You will coordinate the trust maths CPD offer for staff through the NET Staff College

● You will represent the trust in national and regional sector events to contribute to the wider development of maths beyond the trust

● You will deliver trust programmes of support for schools we are asked to work with as an external provider to fulfil the wider school improvement offer for our neighbourings

Northern Education Trust offers:

● The opportunity to work and progress across the family of schools

● The support and expertise of fellow senior directors and directors of subject

● The support and expertise of executive principals, senior executive principals and the CEO

● Weekly L&P whole staff CPD sessions, many of which are ring-fenced for whole trust subject specific sessions

● Cross-phase, whole trust half termly ‘network meetings’ with all directors, principals, executive principals and the CEO, as well as senior corporate directors of service

● The support and expertise of the trust directors of HR, estates, NET Staff College, catering, ICT, data, finance, SEND, and safeguarding

● A further comprehensive programme of professional development, including leadership, provided through the NET Staff College.

In accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2024, an online search will be completed on all shortlisted applicants prior to interview. Any relevant information will be discussed further with the applicant during the interview process.

The Trust is committed to safer recruitment practice and pre-employment checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed. All posts are subject to enhanced disclosure and barring service checks. We expect all adults to share our commitment to safeguarding and the health and wellbeing of our pupils.
