Maintenance Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Engineer to join our team at Wright Staff. As a Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for carrying out maintenance activities to equipment, site processes, and services in-line with manufacturers' and legal recommended intervals and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide and oversee maintenance and repair of the site's processes, services, and equipment in alignment with production and management needs.
  2. Support the production team in the changing over and set up of all machinery.
  3. Support the production team in the application of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) activities.
  4. Ensure all paperwork completed in line with the maintenance process/system is accurate and legible.
  5. Positively support and drive a continuous improvement culture through the production areas.
  6. Support Risk Assessments and all Health and Safety (H&S) improvement activities.
  7. Assist with the installation of new plant/process installation.
  8. Be responsive to support production needs for maintenance and breakdown repair in line with priorities set by the Production Manager/Supervision.
  9. Support and carry out operator training as required.
  10. Support and follow the maintenance spares system/stores.
  11. Actively participate in all continuous improvement activities/initiatives and Kaizen events. Proactively identify and make recommendations for improvements.
  12. Sharing experience, best practice, relaying all relevant knowledge and information with colleagues.
  13. Actively support Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and all assigned Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM) required.
  14. Demonstrate good housekeeping.
  15. Ensure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is maintained and used as prescribed.
  16. Be flexible in approach to work to support the production needs, be able to work shifts and cover overtime when required.

Requirements:

  1. Time served apprenticeship with practical experience (minimum 5 years post completion of apprenticeship) in a manufacturing environment packaging/FMCG/automotive.
  2. Minimum City and Guilds (C&G) craft qualification - mechanical or mechanical/electric. Target ONC mechanical or mechanical/electric qualifications.
  3. PC literate.
  4. PLC and Pneumatics control experience.
  5. Good communication skills and attitude.
  6. Practical approach to modern problem-solving tools and techniques.
  7. Five years' experience as a maintenance technician in a packaging/automotive/FMCG working environment.
  8. Qualification HNC in mechanical engineering or Mech/Elec.
  9. Knowledge/experience of mechanical/electrical PLC and Pneumatic systems.
  10. Experience in lean manufacturing/continuous improvement techniques and tools 5s, Kaizen, etc.
  11. 17th/18th Edition wiring regulations.
  12. Experience of statistical process control (SPC) and modern problem-solving tools techniques.
  13. Supervisory experience in a 'lean culture' manufacturing environment.
  14. Broad knowledge of equipment types: - packaging and processing.
  15. Awareness of modern technology.
  16. Good communication skills and attitude.
  17. Team player.
  18. Flexible - able to work shifts and cover overtime when required.
  19. Competent and self-motivated.
  20. Leadership skills.
  21. Awareness and experience of modern improvement tools and techniques.
  22. Data handling/PC skills.
  23. Able to work under pressure to achieve tight delivery schedules.
  24. Wide maintenance/engineering experience in a selection of modern 'lean cultured' manufacturing environments.
