Fixed Term Consultant in Stroke Medicine

Applications are invited for a Consultant Physician with an interest in Stroke Medicine to join the existing Stroke team in Lincolnshire.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality of care is provided to the Lincolnshire population from prevention of hyper-acute treatment and all aspects of rehabilitation.

Acute stroke services are currently under review in line with the Midlands and East strategic health authority Stroke review.

The team has functional telemedicine equipment which is used with various aspects of stroke care.

The successful candidate will work with the rest of the clinical and managerial team to support and deliver quality improvements on the Stroke Unit and in the community.

About us

The United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (ULTH) is one of the largest trusts in the country and has recently been awarded Teaching Hospital Status.

The trust provides a comprehensive range of hospital-based medical, surgical, paediatric, obstetric and gynaecological services to the 700,000 people of Lincolnshire.

The trust provides a wide range of healthcare services delivered by 7,800 highly trained staff and volunteers.

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring the highest quality of care is provided to the Lincolnshire population
  • Working with the rest of the clinical and managerial team to support and deliver quality improvements on the Stroke Unit and in the community
  • Participating in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care
Person Specification

The successful candidate will need to have:

  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Advanced Life Support certificate
  • Higher research qualification
  • Certificate of completion of specialist training (CCT) or equivalent in General Internal Medicine and Geriatric medicine, Neurology or Stroke medicine (or entry expected within six months of interview date)
Clinical Experience

The successful candidate will need to have:

  • Clinical experience in stroke medicine, including acute, TIA, rehabilitation and prevention
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Expertise in stroke thrombolysis
  • Experience of telemedicine
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the management of acute medical emergencies
Management

The successful candidate will need to have:

  • Evidence of understanding of the role of clinical management
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively
  • Ability to plan strategically and to exercise sound judgment when faced with conflicting pressures
