Job Title: Decontamination Technician

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Decontamination Technician to join our team at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust. As a Decontamination Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of patient care by providing sterile surgical instruments, scopes, and supplies to our wards, departments, and operating theatres.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the re-processing of standard reusable surgical instruments, medical devices, equipment, and procedure packs in the Hospital Sterilization and Disinfection Unit (HSDU).
  • Process endoscopes in the Endoscopy Decontamination area, including receipt, pre-clean, decontamination, and packing.
  • Operate modern industrial machinery to wash, dry, press, and fold hospital linen in the Laundry department.
  • Work in a Clean Room environment to wash, dry, inspect, fold, and pack surgeon's gowns, surgical drapes, and wraps.
  • Participate in cross-site working as required to meet the needs of the service.
Requirements:
  • Level 2, GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Evidence of completing further training and development or education.
Desirable Criteria:
  • NVQ in Customer Care or equivalent in Sterile Services/Endoscopy Field.
  • Experience in a factory or packing role.
  • Experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience in a cleaning role.
