Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Digital Production Planning and Control Engineer to join our team at Newcastle University. As a key member of our Industrialised Construction project, you will be responsible for developing and implementing cutting-edge digital solutions to enhance production and manufacturing processes.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work with Merit Holdings Ltd. and Newcastle University on a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project. You will lead the specification and deployment of a digital solution for dynamic production planning and control, addressing the need for dynamic project-specific production workflows, optimising resource allocation, reducing production waste, and enabling automated process control and inspection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement digital solutions for production planning and control
  • Lead the specification and deployment of a digital solution for dynamic production planning and control
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team from Newcastle University and Merit Holdings Ltd. to achieve project goals
  • Disseminate and embed knowledge within Merit to various stakeholders throughout the KTP via reports, presentations, group discussions, and workshops
  • Prepare publications, case studies, and attend conferences

Requirements

  • MSc, MEng, or PhD in Mechanical/Manufacturing, Industrial, Electrical, Mechatronics, Civil, Automation, Construction Management, or a related discipline
  • Industrial experience of a manufacturing or work-site environment desirable
  • Expertise in applying formal methods for knowledge capture, developing digital and data-driven solutions for improving factory processes, and designing and implementing data-driven control systems for managing production workflows
  • Skills in using Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and digital technologies for capacity planning, production scheduling, and resource management
  • Ability to deploy and manage IoT systems to capture and analyse live production data
  • Competence in C++ and Python programming languages
