Job Title: Technical Coordinator

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Coordinator to join our team at Birmingham City University. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing our technical facilities, including traditional workshops, digital making equipment, and creative studios.

The Technical Coordinator will work closely with our technical and teaching staff to deliver a high-quality experience to students. This will involve ensuring resources, equipment, and tools are working effectively and safely, as well as supporting staff and students with their technical needs.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of traditional and digital fabrication techniques, with a particular emphasis on metal fabrication. They will also possess comprehensive knowledge of various materials and processes, including plastics, metals, and wood.

The Technical Coordinator will be responsible for purchasing and maintaining resources, collaborating with course directors and lecturers, and liaising with suppliers. They will also be responsible for managing an operational budget and building and maintaining relationships with external suppliers and contractors.

The successful candidate will have a degree-level qualification and/or significant experience in Jewellery Making, Product Design, or another practical, creative profession. They will be proficient in the use of workshop machinery, operation and servicing, and familiar with the workings of a Technical Support team within Higher Education.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team and manage their workload and time efficiently. They will also have experience in providing training or demonstrations on a range of complicated equipment or processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage technical facilities, including traditional workshops, digital making equipment, and creative studios

Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of traditional and digital fabrication techniques
