Job Overview

Carrington West is recruiting a Senior Highway Engineer to join our Transport Strategy Team. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a passionate and experienced professional to contribute to sustainable growth, infrastructure development, and highway improvements.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Highway Engineer to lead a small team of engineers and technicians. As part of this role, you will oversee technical approvals for highway works on major projects like Sizewell C. You will also collaborate with local planning authorities, developers, and public stakeholders, representing the Highway Authority in meetings and on-site consultations.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in highway design and knowledge of Section 38 and 278 agreements. They will be responsible for ensuring that all designs comply with CDM, Health and Safety legislation, and project standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership: Supervise engineers and technicians, offering guidance and mentorship, and conducting performance reviews to ensure high standards.
  • Technical Approval: Manage technical approvals for highway works related to major projects.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with local planning authorities, developers, and public stakeholders, representing the Highway Authority in meetings and on-site consultations.
  • Legal Compliance: Advise on Section 38 and 278 Highways Act agreements, ensuring compliance with layout, drainage, and construction standards.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure that all designs comply with CDM, Health and Safety legislation, and project standards.

Requirements
  • Qualifications: Degree (NVQ Level 6) or equivalent experience in Engineering.
  • Professional Status: Incorporated or Chartered Engineer, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Proven experience in highway design and knowledge of Section 38 and 278 agreements.
Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this role is £60,000 - £80,000 per annum, depending on experience.
