Design Engineer Job Description

Flintstone Technology Ltd is a leading provider of mooring systems technology for the global energy market. We are seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer to join our team in Dundee.

The Role

The Design Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing Flintstone products for energy markets, including floating offshore wind. This will involve:

  • Performing calculations to support and verify design work
  • Participating in project design reviews
  • Failure mode effect and criticality analysis
  • Report writing
  • Creating and managing 3D models and technical drawings
  • Checking and approving of other design engineers' output
  • Preparing project-specific documents for presentation to clients, authorities, and third parties
  • Meeting clients and users to determine their requirements
  • Presenting design solutions to interested parties
  • Preparing draft purchase orders
  • Overseeing testing and reporting conclusions
Essential Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of a BSc in mechanical engineering
  • A minimum of three years' experience in a similar position
  • Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • 3D CAD knowledge - Solidworks preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with attention to detail
  • Ability to follow instructions and work on own initiative
  • Flexibility and adaptability to ensure tasks are prioritised appropriately
  • Honesty, reliability, and discretion are essential as working with confidential information
Desirable Skills and Experience

Experience of working with and overseeing suppliers and experience working in or designing for the offshore industry would be advantageous.
