Job Title: Conservation Project Coordinator

Join Somerset Wildlife Trust as a Conservation Project Coordinator and play a key role in delivering our Somerset Nature Connections project. This exciting opportunity will see you working in partnership with local communities, health and social care sectors, and external specialists to develop and deliver nature connection programs that support adults and young people experiencing physical and mental health concerns.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deliver high-quality nature connection programs that meet the needs of participants, working closely with project partners and stakeholders.
  • Use your knowledge of the benefits of natural environments for maintaining and improving health and wellbeing to inform program design and delivery.
  • Work proactively with external organisations and community groups to establish nature connection sessions and promote the project's impact.
  • Ensure project delivery adheres to rigorous safeguarding and health and safety policies, in accordance with Somerset Wildlife Trust's existing policies.
  • Support the development of further funding bids to expand the health and wellbeing through nature connection program by gathering evidence through delivery.
  • Collaborate with the Blackdown Hills AONB Community Ranger and team to embed nature connection work in future delivery plans.
  • Deliver meaningful and supportive monitoring and evaluation that puts participants' wellbeing at the centre and supports the development of further funding bids.
  • Work closely with other project delivery officers and volunteers, providing peer support and management to deliver the work program as a team.
  • Follow reporting schedules agreed with the Somerset Nature Connections Project Manager and provide regular content for project reports for funders.
  • Implement the communications plan to raise awareness of the project and its impact, and gather support for nature and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Complete relevant training within the wider conservation and health and social care sector, including Mental Health First Aid if not already complete.
  • Work with internal and external staff/organisations to help signpost participants onto other initiatives, projects, and training opportunities.
  • Develop and deliver training opportunities for staff and volunteers in the wider conservation and health and social care sector to understand the benefits of nature connection for wellbeing.
  • Develop and maintain good relations with landowners and land managers, such as the 'Friends of...' groups, to facilitate access to green spaces.
  • Organise and run public and community events that aim to connect people to green spaces and recognise the health and wellbeing benefits of doing so.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in conservation, community engagement, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of the benefits of natural environments for maintaining and improving health and wellbeing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative to problem-solve, make decisions about project delivery, and develop new ideas regarding nature and wellbeing engagement.
  • Relevant training and qualifications in conservation, community engagement, or a related field.
