Job Description

We are currently seeking an experienced Lead Level Designer to join our team at Rebellion for an exciting new project. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for guiding our talented group of Level Designers and delivering high-quality levels in line with your direction. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape the development of our new game from the very start.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and inspire a team of Level Designers with best practice people management techniques.
  • Proactively manage your team's performance and professional development through performance review cycles giving constructive, actionable, relevant feedback.
  • Be a mediator for your team, proactively identifying and resolving conflict swiftly and efficiently, diffusing problems and maintaining positive working relationships within your team.
  • Collaborate with Design Directors and the Production team to define and balance creative vision with production realities.
  • Communicate and champion the design direction to your team and ensure they remain up to date with evolving briefs.
  • Regularly review your team's work against the design brief and provide actionable feedback to make improvements, incorporating appropriate feedback from key stakeholders.
  • Verify the quality of design in the game, give feedback to designers and suggest improvements where necessary to fit technical constraints and artistic direction. Ensure correct documentation workflows and process are followed throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Plan and conduct gameplay evaluations with the Design Director, and the team providing feedback and suggestions to help fine tune and improve the game.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of 3D software such as Blender, 3D Studio Max or Maya.
  • Expert knowledge of creating game design documents, prototype specifications and production pipelines.
  • Willingness and ability to deliver high-quality results using tools and processes required to get the job done.
  • Expert knowledge of the video game development process, including working in a timely/time-bound manner, and prototyping/iterating appropriately within that restriction.
  • Proactively ensure the game design serves the audience of the game, is appropriate to the state of the market, and uses the most appropriate business model given the resources available.
  • Able to develop resolutions to unusually challenging problems and mentor individuals and teams to solve problems creatively.
  • Able to plan and prioritise work, balancing resources, skills, priorities, and timescales to achieve objectives.
  • Ability to give and gather information to effectively communicate information and exert influence whilst building long-term, trusting relationships with a wide range of people, and building trust within multiple teams.
