Job Overview

Browne Jacobson is seeking an experienced Employment Lawyer to join our Education Sector team. As an Employment Lawyer, you will provide comprehensive and pragmatic employment advice and support to clients in the education sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide solution-focused, pragmatic employment advice to clients in the education sector, including advising schools and academies on employment law issues.
  • Advocate in employment tribunals and prepare for employment tribunal cases, including preparing Claim/Response, discrimination questionnaires, and witness statements.
  • Draft contracts, policies, and procedures, and advise clients on what procedures are required.
  • Advise on union issues, including negotiating policies, restructures, and changing terms and conditions in a unionized context.
  • Advise on TUPE, including academy transfers and projects, and general transfer queries.
  • Provide general advice on employment law matters, including conduct of disciplinary investigations, grievance procedures, redundancy programs, and holiday pay.
  • Maximize new business opportunities for the firm and undertake public speaking at conferences and other events.
  • Write blog posts and advisory articles on an ad-hoc basis for Browne Jacobson materials and sector publications.
  • Deliver exceptional client service and keep abreast of sector developments and changes.

Requirements

  • A thorough understanding of employment law, including contentious and non-contentious issues.
  • Good IT and keyboard skills, familiar with Microsoft Office and relevant case management systems.
  • Familiarity with online and library research facilities.
  • Be fully up to date with legal developments, including reviewing monthly law reports and journals.
