About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Spinal Neurosurgeon to join our team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. As a Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and leading a team of healthcare professionals in the diagnosis and treatment of spinal conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake the full range of activities associated with a spinal emergency on-call duty, including the appropriate management of patients post-take.
  • Manage a cohort of elective spinal patients in a timely manner, from triage and management of referral, through stages of diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.
  • Engage with and support colleagues to ensure appropriate and timely management of spinal patients within the West Midlands region.
  • Deliver appropriate levels of clinical, administrative, and surgical activity proportionate with the agreed job plan in line with the specialty activity plan.
  • Ensure that patients are involved in decisions about their care and respond to their views.
  • Support the ongoing improvement of spinal patient pathways within UHB through the sharing of good practice, undertaking audits, and research, and participating in governance practices such as incident reporting and investigation.
  • Engage with continuous professional development, maintain GMC specialist registration, and license to practice.

  • GMC Registration
  • Inclusion on Specialist Register for Neurosurgery or, if in training, eligible for inclusion on the Register within 6 months of interview
