Job Summary

Forestry and Land Scotland is seeking a skilled professional to join our Visitor Services team as a Scottish Water Partnership Ranger. This is a fixed-term appointment, commencing in September 2023, with funding through to 2027.

Key Responsibilities
  • Welcoming visitors and providing information on local resources, promoting responsible visitor behaviors;
  • Monitoring and reporting visitor numbers and behavior;
  • Collaborating with land managers, ranger services, communities, and partners to promote responsible access opportunities and address the impact of irresponsible behavior;
  • General site maintenance, including litter picking and erecting signage/cones as required;
  • Supervising agency staff contracted to be wardens;
  • Conducting inspections and audits of access routes and sites, undertaking basic maintenance and repairs as needed;
  • Engaging with schools and community groups to promote education and awareness;
  • Creating interpretation materials for public education on using the countryside;
  • Other ad hoc recreation management duties.
Requirements
  • Experience in a visitor/customer-facing or hospitality role, preferably in an outdoor setting;
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to develop relationships and rapport with diverse groups;
  • Ability to work comfortably in all weather conditions and terrains, including rough terrain;
  • Self-motivated and accustomed to lone working without direct supervision, using judgment to make decisions appropriate to the situation;
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office packages, such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
