Job Summary

The Visitor Services team is responsible for delivering high-quality visitor experiences, including planning and managing recreation opportunities, engaging with visitors, and facilitating events and education.

Job Description

This fixed-term appointment, commencing in September 2023, will run until the end of March 2025, with funding extended to 2027. The successful candidate will be responsible for encouraging visitors to have a safe and enjoyable experience across Scottish Water and FLS sites, in line with the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.

Main Duties
  • Welcoming visitors and providing information on local resources, promoting responsible visitor behaviors;
  • Monitoring and reporting visitor numbers and behavior;
  • Collaborating with land managers, ranger services, and communities to promote responsible access opportunities and address the impact of irresponsible behavior;
  • General site maintenance, including litter picking and erecting signage/cones as required;
  • Supervising agency staff contracted to be wardens;
  • Conducting inspections and audits of access routes and sites, undertaking basic maintenance and repairs as needed;
  • Community engagement, including work with schools and community groups;
  • Creating interpretation materials for public education on using the countryside;
  • Other ad hoc recreation management duties.
Person Specification

Essential:

  • Experience in a visitor/customer-facing or hospitality role, ideally in an outdoors setting;
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to develop relationships and rapport with a wide range of people;
  • Able to work comfortably in all weathers and terrains, including rough terrain;
  • Self-driven and used to lone working without direct supervision, using judgment to take decisions appropriate to the circumstance;

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the outdoors in the area/locality of work;
  • Experience engaging with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office packages, such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
