Terahertz Spectroscopy Research Fellow
The University of Manchester is seeking an ambitious and talented terahertz spectroscopist or SNOM expert to join a world-leading team of physicists, chemists, engineers, and materials scientists. The successful applicant will work as part of a £1.7M EPSRC project, focusing on demonstrating a sustainable high-resolution route to nanofabrication by introducing direct write ion beam lithography as an additive manufacturing route to nanoscale semiconductors.
The role of this post in the project is to characterise the nanostructures written by Terahertz spectroscopy and SNOM techniques. This will involve working with teams in the Departments of Chemistry and Materials at the University of Manchester to achieve multiple breakthroughs in manufacturing, enabling large-scale manufacturing of semiconductor devices at resolutions < 5 nm. This will lead to a step change in the performance and fundamental understanding of the materials targeted, accelerating academic research and making smaller semiconductor companies in the UK competitive with larger companies globally.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in physics or electronic engineering or a related discipline, with experience in terahertz spectroscopy or SNOM desirable. The appointee will also contribute to the provision of excellent employee health and wellbeing services, including an Employee Assistance Programme.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic team and contribute to cutting-edge research in terahertz spectroscopy and materials characterisation. We offer a range of benefits, including a market-leading pension scheme, exceptional starting annual leave entitlement, and local and national discounts at major retailers.
