Senior Clinical Psychologist DBT Team Lead

Southampton, Southampton, United Kingdom Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced psychologist or psychological therapist with expertise in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). As a Senior Clinical Psychologist, you will lead a DBT team and hold a varied therapy caseload, consolidating and developing your clinical skills. You will also have the opportunity to lead a DBT Family Connections group for relatives and carers. You will be based with one of the three Community Mental Health Teams in Southampton, providing supervision, consultation, and training to staff across the teams.

Main Duties of the Job

We are looking for someone with strong interpersonal skills and a genuine passion for working with people who are often stigmatised and excluded. You will be well-supported to develop your skills in clinical work, supervision, consultation, and leadership. Support will be offered to complete your accreditation with the Society for DBT as well as your Supervisor Accreditation if required. You will have the opportunity to supervise DBT trainees, as well as managing three DBT therapists.

Applicants should have significant experience of delivering DBT and ideally other therapies for people with complex emotional needs. We are looking for someone with well-developed interpersonal and clinical skills, together with the resilience needed to thrive in a busy city-based NHS service.

You will join a friendly and supportive team of psychologists and psychological therapists with a wealth of expertise including CBT, DBT, CAT, ACT, EMDR and psychodynamic approaches. We have good supervision structures and an excellent track record of CPD, as well as strong academic links.

You will receive professional leadership and line management from a Principal Clinical Psychologist. You will receive clinical supervision tailored to your own practice, including joining our existing DBT consult group.

About Us

Southern Health is one of the largest NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK, specialising in mental health and learning disabilities, as well as offering physical health community-based services. Our footprint spans more than 200 sites across Hampshire, committed to providing the best possible healthcare to diverse communities.

We function as a unified team, placing patients and staff at the forefront of all our endeavours. Our 7,000+ workforce is skilled and diverse, with a deep commitment to ongoing staff development. We offer customised training, leadership pathways, and a plethora of career opportunities.

We respect and listen to your thoughts, ideas, and concerns via well-established network of staff groups to increase awareness and appreciation of equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Building on all this, we are currently working closely with other local NHS Trusts to integrate all our collective community, mental health, and learning disability services across Hampshire and Isle of Wight. Our new organisation is set to launch in April 2024 and will incorporate Southern Health, Solent, Isle of Wight and Sussex Partnership Trusts.

While the new Trust will be substantially bigger, it will continue to cater to the unique needs of different communities, streamlining services and making healthcare across the county more accessible.
