Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled and experienced nurse to take up the position of a Pelvic Health Clinical Nurse Specialist. We are seeking a caring and passionate CNS to provide high-quality care for our patients with pelvic health issues.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert clinical assessment, evidence-based advice, education, and referrals for diagnostic investigations. They will also set up and run nurse-led clinics to support patients managing their pelvic floor symptoms.

The Pelvic Health hub is located in Barry Hospital, a state-of-the-art facility that provides a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care. The successful candidate will work closely with a team of healthcare professionals, including colorectal consultants, urogynaecologists, urologists, and pain consultants.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients with pelvic health issues, including detailed history taking and physical examinations.
  • Develop individualized care plans based on assessment findings and patient needs.
  • Implement and coordinate treatment plans, which may include medication management, physical therapy, lifestyle modifications, and education.
  • Assist in or perform specialized procedures, such as catheterizations, pessary fittings, and pelvic floor muscle training.
  • Provide patient education and support, including emotional support and counseling.
  • Identify the need for and facilitate referrals to other specialists or services.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to work autonomously and as part of a team to deliver high-quality care to our patients. They will be responsible for providing expert clinical assessment, evidence-based advice, education, and referrals for diagnostic investigations. They will also be expected to participate in patient and staff education initiatives and to contribute to the development of the Pelvic Health service.

An initial period of bespoke mentorship and education will be offered to the successful candidate to support them in becoming an autonomous practitioner. The role involves multi-site working across the health board as required.

Person Specification

Experience/Knowledge

  • Previous CNS experience within colorectal/pelvic floor.
  • Evidence of leadership and autonomous practice.

Qualifications

  • Masters level qualification or working towards.
