About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pre-Assessment Nurse to join our team at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Endoscopy Unit, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and ensuring that our patients receive the best possible experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist nursing expertise to facilitate evidence-based patient-centred care and assessment for a defined caseload of pre-assessment patients.
  • Lead a team of nurses in coordinating patients throughout their pre-assessment pathway, with a high level of input into the management and care of patients prior to admission for specified procedures.
  • Act as a resource and provide education for patients and healthcare personnel, and direct the pre-assessment nursing team.
  • Carry out relevant forms of care without direct supervision, working effectively within the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Support all members of staff within Endoscopy, including students of nursing and visiting healthcare professionals.
  • Actively participate in the teaching and mentoring of students and junior staff.
  • Suggest improvements in care provision, recognising and challenging poor practice, and raising concerns to the relevant agencies where appropriate.
  • Ensure that the nursing philosophy of care for Endoscopy is reflected in practice.
Requirements
  • Registered Nurse (Part 1, 8, 12, or 15 of the register, depending on the area of practice) or National certification in the area of practice (minimum 1 year's endoscopy experience).
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of an ongoing NMC revalidation.
  • Minimum of 3 years' acute care registered nurse experience.
  • Evidence of achievement on a Nursing and Midwifery, (NMC) approved Mentorship qualification.
  • Previous experience in the relevant specialty of at least 2 years.
  • Understanding of professional and current issues related to the area of practice.
  • Demonstrates ability to keep up to date with professional issues that influence nursing practice relating to the area of clinical practice, management education, and research.
  • Able to identify own learning needs and ensure own professional development is maintained by keeping up to date with practice developments.
  • Able to lead the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of policies/protocols/guidelines relevant to the area of practice.
  • Demonstrates ability to question and challenge nursing practice in a constructive way so that standards of patient care are continually evaluated and improved.
  • Previous evidence of leadership within practice and the multi-disciplinary team.
