As part of the Howden Group Holdings, a global insurance group with a strong focus on employee ownership, DUAL operates in 55 territories and employs over 18,000 people, handling US$38 billion in premium on behalf of clients.
Role OverviewAs the Head of Construction and Underwriting Strategy, you will report directly to the Chief Underwriting Officer, DUAL UK. Your primary responsibility will be to lead the underwriting strategy and appetite for the DUAL UK Construction account, ensuring that capacity is retained and attracted by maintaining excellent carrier relationships and delivering the required business performance.
Your role will involve developing and growing the existing DUAL Construction account, as well as driving the development and expansion of wider regional underwriting capabilities. This will involve spearheading underwriting strategy, providing guidance on regional case underwriting decisions as needed, and ensuring continuous improvement in underwriting practices.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement a comprehensive underwriting strategy for the DUAL UK Construction account, aligned with the company's overall business objectives.
- Provide input into annual business planning activities, ensuring that underwriting goals and objectives are aligned with the company's overall strategy.
- Monitor portfolio performance and adjust strategy to meet business plans, ensuring that capacity is retained and attracted.
- Ensure that underwriting governance authority frameworks are in place and embedded, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Actively support underwriting teams to write business, including involvement in case solutions and broker relationships.
- Respond to claims patterns and adjust reserves to maintain optimal portfolio performance.
- Stay aware of emerging risks and take necessary action to mitigate them.
- Establish and maintain underwriting standards and authorities, ensuring that underwriting practices are consistent with company policies and procedures.
- Significant proven experience in construction account underwriting, including successful development of accounts and new products.
- Strong experience of portfolio management, including data analytics and performance metrics, and how to enable business growth through technical underwriting and commercial focus.
- Strong understanding of the commercial insurance mid-market and the UK regulatory environment.
- ACII or FCII qualified (or equivalent).
- Strong financial acumen and ability to analyze complex data sets.
- Ability to adapt easily to influence across a wide range of stakeholders, including underwriting teams, brokers, and carriers.
- Demonstrate clear and compelling leadership and champion personal development in yourself and others.
- High levels of visibility and accountability, with excellent communication skills.
