About EIT Pathogena
EIT Pathogena is a pioneering research and development facility that leverages advanced technology to tackle humanity's most pressing challenges. Guided by world-leading scientists and entrepreneurs, we drive innovation by pushing the boundaries of scientific and technological advancements in four key areas: health and medical science, food security and sustainable agriculture, climate change and clean energy, and government innovation and artificial intelligence.
Our new interdisciplinary research and development facility, EIT Oxford, bridges The Oxford Science Park and Littlemore. This state-of-the-art facility will feature 30,000m2 of research laboratories, an oncology and preventative care clinic, and educational and meeting spaces. EIT Oxford will further our partnership with the University of Oxford and become the new home for Ellison Scholars.
We believe that a collaborative team atmosphere is essential to our mission. We strive to create a supportive environment where everyone feels empowered to take creative risks and innovate. We value emotional intelligence, empathy, and respect for others. Our team is curious, committed, and resilient, with a deep sense of responsibility and a drive for excellence.
The Pathogena Mission
The EIT Pathogena Mission aims to revolutionize the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases by developing Whole Genome Sequencing-based metagenomic and individual pathogen clinical tools. Our ultimate goal is to establish an 'always-on global pathogen metagenomics system' that can identify Pathogen X and provide early warning of disease epidemics.
Built by a world-leading pathogen genomics team from the University of Oxford, supported by Oracle Inc's cloud computing scale and security, the Pathogena Mission is designing a global, turn-key solution that systematizes how genomic sequencing data is processed. We aim to develop pipelines to analyze a broad range of pathogens and deliver solutions to laboratories, hospitals, and public health organizations worldwide.
The Role
We are seeking an exceptional Bioinformatics Research Scientist to contribute to the development, evaluation, and deployment of groundbreaking bioinformatic solutions within a real-world context. As a key member of our team, you will engage closely with our partners at the University of Oxford, demonstrating a mission-driven attitude and adaptability to fulfill our collective objectives. Your contributions will be valued and encouraged, as we seek your input on enhancing our offerings, platform, and operational practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop code, implement, and evaluate computational/bioinformatic methods and tools to support research and development in infectious disease genomics, including species prediction, AMR determination, and outbreak and relatedness information.
- Create analysis pipelines and validate various tools' performances.
- Understand various sequencing devices and data types, as well as have a good understanding of upstream laboratory processes.
- Be familiar with current genomic repositories such as ENA, GenBank, GISAID, etc.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including academics, clinicians, computer scientists, biostatisticians, and biologists, to develop and implement data-driven strategies.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest developments in bioinformatics and computational biology.
- Be innovative and take the initiative to introduce new ideas and approaches.
- Manage and mentor team members, setting performance goals and providing regular feedback.
