Bangura Solutions is a prestigious government department seeking an experienced Senior Scientific Software Engineer to join their welcoming team.

The role will focus on adding technical leadership to complement existing scientific leadership, supporting the project manager in effective agile delivery practices. The Senior Scientific Software Engineer will develop and monitor against a technical roadmap to address machine learning challenges, balancing scientific progress with sustainability, maintainability, long-term delivery, and improving development cycle time.

This position requires expertise in Python, knowledge of quality assurance, especially testing and documentation. Additionally, it demands experience with agile development practices, specifically Scrum, and working with large structured and unstructured datasets, ideally geospatial data. The ideal candidate should be able to review and promote coding best practices, maintain good documentation, and promote knowledge transfer through pair programming, coaching, and team discussions.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Act as Scrum Master and facilitate the delivery team to work effectively.
  2. Monitor progress against and adapt roadmaps escalating via the project manager when this affects milestones/deliverables.
  3. Work as part of a team to incorporate new scientific developments into the FastNet code base.
  4. Review and promote coding best practices for the project.
  5. Maintain good documentation and promote knowledge transfer to other team members.
