Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Bereavement Officer to join our team at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. This is a fixed-term/secondment position based at the Royal Derby Hospital, with regular cross-site working between there and Queens Hospital, Burton.

The successful candidate will work closely with clinical and non-clinical staff, the Registrar, chaplaincy service, Coroner's office, Medical Examiner, and funeral directors to provide a professional, compassionate, and high-quality service for relatives of deceased patients.

Main Responsibilities
  • Support the Senior Bereavement Officer in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the Bereavement office.
  • Undertake administrative duties associated with the completion of medical death certificates in liaison with stakeholders.
  • Ensure doctors complete legal documentation promptly and accurately, providing advice, support, and information to facilitate this.
  • Establish and maintain partnership working with agencies, such as the Registrar Service, Coroner's office, funeral directors, and internal services including chaplaincy, mortuary staff, clinical, and non-clinical staff.

Person Specification
  • A Business Administration qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting.
