About Us

We are a leading environmental agency responsible for regulating the disposal of radioactive waste across the nuclear industry in England. Our Nuclear Waste Assessment Team provides specialist technical advice to support our regulation of existing nuclear sites and influences the environmental performance of future facilities.

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Nuclear Waste Assessor to join our team. As a Nuclear Waste Assessor, you will support the assessment of proposals for managing and disposing of radioactive waste for both proposed and existing facilities. You will work alongside our Senior Nuclear Waste Assessors to provide specialist technical input across various areas, including proposed and existing disposal facilities, nuclear site waste management plans, and radioactive waste management policy and guidance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the assessment of proposals for managing and disposing of radioactive waste
  • Provide specialist technical input across various areas, including proposed and existing disposal facilities, nuclear site waste management plans, and radioactive waste management policy and guidance
  • Communicate with and influence internal and external stakeholders to ensure our nuclear regulation programmes are delivered
  • Work alongside our Senior Nuclear Waste Assessors to support the assessment of proposals and provide technical input
Requirements
  • Scientific degree or equivalent vocational experience
  • Lived in the UK for the last 3 years in line with Environment Agency enhanced security checks
  • Experience of the treatment, conditioning, and/or disposal of solid radioactive waste within the nuclear or associated industry
  • Sound understanding of corresponding environmental challenges and issues
  • Ability to prioritise work to ensure tasks are achieved to time, quality, and cost
  • Excellent technical report writing
  • Full UK driving licence
