Job Overview

We are looking for a highly motivated and organized individual with a passion for children's and young adult fiction to scout top titles for international translation and adaptation into film, TV, and audio.

Key Responsibilities
  1. BUILD AND MAINTAIN RELATIONSHIPS WITH UK AND INTERNATIONAL AGENTS, PUBLISHERS, FILM AND TV AGENTS, AND EDITORS TO SOURCE THE BEST CHILDREN'S BOOKS FOR TRANSLATION AND ADAPTATION.
  2. LIAISE DAILY WITH CLIENTS, ANSWER QUESTIONS, SEND SUBMISSIONS, WRITE AND PROOF REPORTS ON SCOUTED TITLES.
  3. COMMUNICATE WITH UK EDITORS AND AGENTS, BUILD AND MAINTAIN MARKET AWARENESS, AND REPORT ON UK MARKET DEVELOPMENTS.
  4. READ AND REPORT ON SUBMITTED TITLES, FOCUSING ON CHILDREN'S LITERATURE BUT ALSO CONSIDERING GENERAL FICTION AND NON-FICTION.
  5. ATTEND BOOK FAIRS, REPRESENT THE COMPANY AT EVENTS LIKE THE LONDON BOOK FAIR, BOLGONA CHILDREN'S BOOK FAIR, AND FRANKFURT BOOK FAIR.
  6. ORGANIZE BOOK FAIR SCHEDULES FOR CHILDREN'S CLIENTS.
Requirements
  • Prior experience in the children's book market, ideally in scouting, editorial, agenting, or translation rights.
  • FAST READING SKILLS, ABILITY TO PROVIDE CLEAR AND CONFIDENT REPORTS ON TITLE CONTENT, STYLE, AND COMMERCIAL VALUE.
  • EXCELLENT COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND A STRONG NETWORK OF INDUSTRY CONTACTS.
  • HIGHLY ORGANIZED WITH A SHARP EYE FOR DETAIL AND OUTSTANDING IT SKILLS.
  • A CONFIDENT SELF-STARTER AND PROBLEM-SOLVER WITH EXCELLENT TEAMWORK SKILLS.
  • HOPEFULLY FOREIGN LANGUAGE SKILLS OR EXPERIENCE IN BOOKSELLING.
