Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Nurse Specialist to join our Skin Surgery team within the Dermatology Department at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will have experience in wound care management and be able to work on their own initiative. They will be responsible for performing a daily skin surgery service, prioritizing and escalating patient care, and attending and participating in Dermatology MDT.

The ideal candidate will have a good knowledge of wound care management, understanding of research-based practice, and knowledge of Dermatology Services. They will also have at least 3 years of experience at Band 5 or equivalent, clinical audit and standard setting, and evidence of continued professional development and implementation in clinical practice within 12 months.

Main Responsibilities
  • Performing a daily skin surgery service with suspected cancer or taking biopsies for diagnostic purposes
  • Prioritizing and escalating patient care according to information from the clinical team, being aware of each patient's pathway and ensuring compliance with current Trust policies and government waiting times
  • Being the first point of contact for patients with wounds that may require assessment, monitoring, and direct wound care/advice
  • Attending and participating in Dermatology MDT
  • Attending service improvement meetings with the Sister/Operational Service Manager
  • Working within a team to update current audit practices for service requirements
Requirements
  • Good ability to work on own initiative
  • Good knowledge of wound care management
  • Understanding of research-based practice
  • Understanding of the process of change
  • Knowledge of Dermatology Services
  • Dermatology and/or Surgical Experience in an NHS environment
Qualifications
  • At least 3 years at Band 5 or equivalent
  • Clinical audit and standard setting
  • Evidence of continued professional development and implementation in clinical practice within 12 months
  • Full UK NMC Registration
  • Leadership Training
  • Evidence of Teaching and assessing training
  • Skin Surgery Qualification
