Job Description

Orion Group is seeking a highly skilled Drilling Engineer to join our team in Aberdeen. As a key member of our drilling operations team, you will be responsible for designing and executing wells in compliance with our company's management system.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Well Design and Planning: Design wells or work from designs provided by senior drilling engineers, creating well programs in compliance with our management system by analyzing offset data, generating and evaluating design options using Landmark software, assessing risk, and preparing detailed design and program documents.
  • Cost Estimation and Tracking: Prepare time and cost estimates and assist the drilling accountant with cost tracking during well operations.
  • Procurement and Coordination: Procure services, equipment, and materials and coordinate suppliers and service providers for drilling, completing, or working over wells.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support for pre-contract invitation to tender and tender evaluation processes, with subsequent technical support for commercial contract drafting.
  • Risk Assessment and Reporting: Prepare and present risk assessments, issue program amendments as required, ensuring adequate peer review, risk assessments, and approval authority.
  • Well Operations Support: Participate in daily calls to the rig and assist the project team in organizing support activities.
  • Well File Management: Compile a comprehensive End-Of-Well Report with operational lessons learned captured and implemented and ensure all daily reports received from offshore are correct and filed correctly.
  • Benchmarking and Performance Analysis: Support well delivery efficiency with benchmarking and performance analysis.
  • Wells Management System Improvement: Assist the Wells Function by providing input and resources to improve Wells Management System, Wells supply chain planning, and other functional processes.
  • Offshore Visits: Occasional offshore visits to support well operations.
  • Reporting and Compliance: Meet all company, partner, and regulatory reporting requirements at the end of the well or project.
  • Incident Management: Participate in Wells' duty rota and provide support to the Incident Management Team in the event of a rig-related incident.
  • Well Design and Planning of P+A Activities: Experienced user in Landmark well planning software package, complex well paths, and managing anti-collision on a congestion well pattern for a mature field.
  • Regulatory Compliance: UK regulatory regime, IWCF L4 Well Control, and UK Medical and Survival are also required.
