At Starling Bank, we're seeking a skilled Database Engineer to join our engineering team. As a key member of our team, you'll be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our PostgreSQL databases. Your expertise will help us optimize database performance, ensure data security, and drive innovation in our fintech platform.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with our DBA team to build and manage our Database Manager application

• Deliver knowledge sharing across the team on Java and database best practices

• Work with cross-functional teams to understand database needs and make adjustments from an application and infrastructure standpoint

• Monitor and optimize database performance

• Analyze database queries to understand usage patterns

• Plan and allocate systems requirements and infrastructure for future needs

• Participate in managing and maintaining Postgres database infrastructure

Requirements:

• Experience in software development, preferably in Java

• Experience with infrastructure as code, preferably with Terraform

• Familiarity with cloud environments, such as AWS or GCP

• In-depth knowledge of Postgres from both administrative and developer perspectives

• Strong ability to solve complex technical problems

• Excellent communication skills to interact with stakeholders at all levels

Desirable:

• Knowledge of Docker or Kubernetes

• Experience working at a senior level, able to communicate effectively to achieve goals

Interview Process:

Our interviewing process is a two-way conversation to ensure you're the right fit for Starling Bank. You can expect a 30-minute conversation with our Talent Team, followed by a 90-minute technical interview, and a 45-minute final interview. Come prepared with questions and be curious about our team and culture.
