Senior Mental Health Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to lead our Community Mental Health team in West Wiltshire and Devizes. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated professional to join our team and contribute to the delivery of high-quality mental health services.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering direct interventions to service users, including those who require an assertive approach. This will involve ongoing assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental and physical health needs.
The post holder will also provide medical input and leadership to the WWKD CMHT, with particular responsibility for patients from surgeries in Melksham and Trowbridge. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing advice to members of the Multi-Disciplinary Teams in the WWKD CMHT and attending regular Team MDT meetings.
- Assessment and treatment of outpatients in clinics.
- Hold CPA meetings for outpatients.
- Visit patients in their own place of residence if clinically indicated.
- Liaise with other parts of the service and GPs and non-NHS organisations wherever applicable.
- Liaise with the Intensive and Inpatient services as appropriate to facilitate the smooth handover of clients between services.
- To fulfil the Responsible Clinician role with respect to patients subject to Community Treatment Orders.

Job Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable qualifications include:
- Relevant Higher Degree e.g. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications.
- MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Eligibility criteria include:
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months of gaining CCT.
- Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
- Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
Desirable experience includes:
- CCT in General Adult Psychiatry.
The successful candidate will possess:
- Leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to manage own time, workload and prioritise clinical work.
- Excellent communication skills, in order to effectively work with patients, carers and staff.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
The successful candidate will have:
- Ability to assess and treat psychiatric problems in Adults of working age and to deal with crisis situations.
The successful candidate will have:
- Understanding of the management skills required to function successfully as a Consultant.
The successful candidate will have:
- Commitment to and experience of undergraduate and postgraduate learning and teaching.
- Understand principles of teaching.
The successful candidate will have:
- Experience or involvement in a research project and publication.
- Experience of carrying out an audit project.
The successful candidate will have:
- Evidence of management/leadership skills training.
