Job Overview

The Medical Support Assistant role is a pivotal position in supporting the efficient functioning of our Acute Medical Unit (AMU).

Main Responsibilities

This challenging and rewarding job involves transferring patients to receiving medical wards, maintaining clear communication with staff members, ensuring that the ward is equipped with essential supplies, having a good understanding of manual handling procedures, and upholding the privacy and dignity of patients at all times.

Key Tasks

Some of the key tasks associated with this role include:
  • Transferring patients to receiving medical wards
  • Cleaning trolleys/beds following transfers and changing linen for the next patient
  • Restocking IV trolleys, resuscitation trolleys, and dressing trolleys in clinical areas as needed
  • Daily checking of portable oxygen cylinders and requesting/changing new cylinders when empty
  • Restocking the clean utility room using clinical stock from central store on AMU
  • Working under the direction and supervision of a senior nurse to ensure that electrical equipment is charged and in working order
  • Maintaining a tidy ward environment by removing rubbish and clutter as required
  • Reporting any defects to estates and informing the nurse-in-charge
  • Cleaning general and specialist equipment, such as drip stands and commodes, to NHS National Standards
