Job Title: Commissioning Technician - Rolling Stock

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Commissioning Technician to join our team at Shorterm Group. As a Commissioning Technician, you will be responsible for assisting the Fleet Operator to undertake and supervise mechanical and electrical maintenance, detailed fault finding, and repair on the Aventra Platform family of trains.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide Technical Expertise: Offer train systems engineering advice for the vehicle as a whole and for the key vehicle systems, including TCMS, HVAC, propulsion, brakes, doors, and on-train communications.
  2. Maintenance Optimization: Optimize maintenance on trains as per defined balanced examination schedules.
  3. Fault Finding and Diagnostics: Assist customers with detailed fault finding and diagnostics, and provide solutions that provide short-term mitigation and long-term resolution.
  4. Warranty and Supplier Liaison: Monitor warranty issues and liaise with supplier technical teams.
  5. Train Maintenance and Repair: Attend to faulty trains in service, replace components, and perform modification work.
  6. Root Cause Analysis: Assist customers with root cause analysis using Bombardier FRACAS, 8D, and PPS methodologies.
  7. Part Sourcing and Maintenance Instructions: Ensure correct replacement parts are sourced and assist operators in updating maintenance instructions, overhaul instructions, processes, and procedures.
  8. Reliability and Availability Performance: Monitor trains' reliability and availability performance and issue monthly performance reports.
  9. Remote Monitoring and Data Analysis: Monitor trains in service using the remote monitoring system, Orbita, and download train data from onboard train data recorders.
  10. System Software Updates and Obsolescence: Run diagnostics software to identify faults with various train systems, perform system software updates as required, and avoid obsolescence.
  11. Engineering Support and Safety: Provide engineering support for all safety-related incidents, including representing the customer with respect to access to Design Authority and equipment OEMs.
  12. Health and Safety and Reporting: Contribute to health and safety on a daily basis and maintain strong report writing skills.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess:

  • Extensive knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under your own initiative.
  • Experience within Rail is desirable.
  • Use of laptops and diagnostic tools to determine faults.
  • Ability to work from maintenance manuals and schematics.
  • Experience of Mechanical or Electrical fault finding and repairs.
  • Troubleshooting and evidence gathering skills.

Qualifications:

A recognized apprenticeship and a minimum qualification of NVQ Level 3 in an electrical discipline are required.
