This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Transport Planner to join our forward-thinking team in a strategic policy-focused role where your expertise will directly influence how people use our transport network.

A key part of the role is recommending when and where transport improvements are delivered to support sustainable economic growth.

As a Senior Transport Planner, you will work with colleagues across the council to prepare, implement and monitor the council's Local Transport Plan, ensuring our transport policies, strategies and initiatives deliver our Council's priorities ensuring improved outcomes for residents, businesses and visitors whilst aligning with national and regional priorities.

You will also work closely with delivery partners to ensure coordinated and collaborative approaches to investment, developing and managing business cases for major transport projects and schemes (including rail services and infrastructure), helping to maximise the Council's success when bidding for competitive funding opportunities at a national level.

We're seeking a candidate with a relevant degree or postgraduate qualification in a transport planning-related field and at least three years of post-qualification experience.

Key requirements include:

  • A deep understanding of transport planning issues.
  • A proven track record in contributing to policy and strategy development.
  • Strong project management skills, with experience in delivering complex policy documents (e.g. LTPs), transport plans and policy development.
  • While not essential, experience and knowledge of working within the rail sector would be a valuable asset.
