About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Area Ranger to join our South Lakes countryside team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing and supporting a small team of rangers to lead our operational work across Hawkshead, Claife, and Tarn Hows.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and support a small team of rangers to deliver conservation, access, and land management improvements.
  • Develop and deliver conservation plans to protect and enhance the natural environment.
  • Work collaboratively with local communities, farm tenants, and stakeholders to build long-term relationships and deliver more for nature.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and manage risk effectively.
  • Identify opportunities to inspire and involve local and wider audiences in our conservation work.
Requirements
  • Strong practical access and habitat management experience.
  • Good people skills, able to motivate, lead, and inspire.
  • Good communication skills, able to build genuine long-term relationships.
  • Good understanding of compliance and risk in the countryside.
  • Good organisational skills, able to work independently and prioritise competing demands.
  • Competence with machinery and equipment, such as chainsaws and trailers.
  • Full UK driving licence.
