Margate, Kent, United Kingdom Thanet District Council Full time
Senior Environmental Health Practitioner

Thanet District Council is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Environmental Health Practitioner to lead its Private Sector Housing service. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the Housing Improvement team, which responds to housing condition complaints and unlawful eviction and harassment allegations.

The team works collaboratively with the Housing Licensing and Empty Homes teams to ensure that all private sector residents in Thanet have access to safe and healthy housing. The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge and relevant experience in private sector housing, including the use of the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) and enforcement options under the Housing Act 2004.

The ideal candidate will hold a BSc or MSc in Environmental Health (or equivalent degree) and be EHRB registered and/or on the CIEH Professional Register as a Chartered or Registered EHP. All applicants must hold an HHSRS competency certificate from a recognised training provider.

Due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS check as part of their pre-employment checks. A full driving licence and own vehicle are also essential for this role, as travelling around the district is a requirement.

For an informal discussion about this role, please contact Richard Hopkins, Private Sector Housing Manager, at Thanet District Council.
