Job Title: Paint Correction/Detailer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Paint Correction/Detailer to join our team at Harwoods Ltd. As a key member of our bodyshop department, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standard of repairs are carried out to the manufacturer's specification, specifically relating to the paint process.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure all work is completed to the customer's satisfaction and strive to exceed their expectations
  • Receive vehicle, job card, and Quality Control (QC) forms from the panel shop and check the quality of repairs, taking remedial action if necessary
  • Ensure that all parts have been stripped from the vehicle and that it is in an appropriate condition to receive paint treatment
  • Document any other vehicle problems noted during repairs and seek guidance from the workshop controller/bodyshop estimator if necessary
  • Ensure that vehicle internal car care kit is fitted (seat covers, steering wheel cover, and floor mat) to prevent dust transfer
  • De-grease the area to be treated, sand down the relevant areas, and mask out the area to be treated
  • Etch and prime the area to be treated, bake the vehicle in the oven, and carefully remove it once it is cooled
  • De-mask the vehicle, flatten the primer, and degrease the area to be painted
  • Select a match and mix colour chips to match the vehicle, wear appropriate protective clothing, and apply one or more top coats to the vehicle as required
  • Bake the vehicle in the oven, carefully remove it once it is cooled, and de-mask it
  • Complete by flattening and polishing and visual checks, check the final finish and colour match, and carry out final checks on the vehicle after repair in line with the quality control checklist
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of automotive systems, basic vehicle layout, function, and location of parts
  • Basic knowledge of parts requirements to complete the job and the ability to communicate parts requirements via repair orders
  • Approved and established procedures for replacing components
  • Quality control and inspection requirements of the Bodyshop department
  • Manufacturers' products and recent improvements through Paint Manufacturers, technical bulletins, training courses, and technical magazines
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturer paint repair processes, paint products, features, use, limitations, etc.
  • The tools to be used for appropriate operations, together with maintenance procedures and practices
  • Protective clothing/footwear/masks to be worn for specific operations
  • Safety procedures for all bodyshop equipment
  • The use of computer systems for paint mixing
  • Manufacturers' standards and objectives, retail facility, and individuals' objectives, both cultural and financial
