Job Title: Credit Controller

About the Role:

The Credit Controller will be responsible for maximising cash collections, reducing debtor days, and ensuring income is maximised while bad debtors are minimised. This involves implementing and managing credit controller procedures, controlling the aged debtor report, and phoning and contacting customers to collect overdue monies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor customer orders and outstanding amounts owed against the bad debtors list
  • Actively pursue outstanding invoices for payment
  • Monitor the flow of invoices, credit notes, and statements to expedite payment
  • Liaise with other departments to rectify customer complaints preventing payment of invoices
  • Escalate bad debts to Senior Management when appropriate
  • Take up trade and bank references, recording credit checks on new and existing customers
  • Report on bad debtors as required
  • Process Direct Debit collections, Credit Card Payments, and Cashiering/Banking/posting incoming BACS payments, DD claims
  • Resolve solutions for customers experiencing financial difficulties
  • Minimise exposure to bad debt risk
  • Set up new customers on the internal accounting software, post credit checks
  • Produce daily, weekly, and monthly reports for all levels of the business, including bad debts position, current overdues, and risk monitoring
  • Meet with sales teams to discuss debts and devise a plan
  • Maintain good customer relationships
  • Follow the court process for bad debts, from initial filing through to preparing documents for the hearing/liaising with our collection agent on cases
  • General office administration
Requirements:
  • Experience as a Collections Adviser/Credit Controller or similar
  • Strong communication skills and a passion for great customer service
  • Excellent IT skills, specifically Microsoft Excel, Accounting software
  • Excellent communication and numerical skills, someone who enjoys working on the phone; has the ability to work alone and take initiative when making independent decisions
  • The ability to work in a methodical and organised structure
  • Extremely reliable, self-motivated, highly organised with a 'can do' attitude
  • A problem solver & solution-oriented
  • Adaptable and resilient, can react quickly in a fast-paced environment
