Director of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Grade: Leadership L5 to L9 - £52,074 to £57,482

Hours: Full Time

The Leeds City Academy is seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to join their senior leadership team. As a key member of the academy's leadership team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic development of the academy's SEND provision, ensuring that all students with special educational needs and disabilities receive a high-quality, inclusive education.

The Director of SEND will work closely with the Principal, Assistant Principal for Inclusion, and the senior leadership team to develop and implement a comprehensive SEND strategy, ensuring that all students have access to the support and resources they need to succeed. This will involve working with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to provide a range of interventions and support services, including assessment, planning, and review.

The successful candidate will be an experienced leader with a proven track record of improving outcomes for students with SEND. They will have a deep understanding of the needs of students with SEND and the ability to develop and implement effective strategies to support their learning. They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders, including parents, carers, and external agencies.

About Leeds City Academy

Leeds City Academy is a mixed and culturally diverse secondary school in West Yorkshire, providing places for students aged 11-16 years. The academy is part of the White Rose Academies Trust, a dynamic and transformational trust that is sponsored by Leeds City College and forms part of the Luminate Education Group.

Key Responsibilities

The Director of SEND will be responsible for:

• Developing and implementing a comprehensive SEND strategy, ensuring that all students with special educational needs and disabilities receive a high-quality, inclusive education.

• Working closely with the Principal, Assistant Principal for Inclusion, and the senior leadership team to develop and implement effective strategies to support students with SEND.

• Providing leadership and guidance to teachers and support staff on SEND-related issues, including assessment, planning, and review.

• Developing and maintaining relationships with external agencies, including local authorities, health services, and other educational institutions.

• Ensuring that all students with SEND have access to the support and resources they need to succeed, including assessment, planning, and review.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

• A proven track record of improving outcomes for students with SEND.

• A deep understanding of the needs of students with SEND and the ability to develop and implement effective strategies to support their learning.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders, including parents, carers, and external agencies.

• A strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and the ability to apply this in practice.

• The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a strong focus on student outcomes.
