Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia invites applications for the position of Director of the Center for Materials Research. The successful candidate will lead the Center in developing new initiatives, center-wide proposals, and partnerships with academia, government, and industry.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for the Center's research and educational programs.
  • Lead and manage multi-investigator grants, centers, or academic programs.
  • Report to the Dean of the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology and have a faculty appointment within one of the academic departments in the College.
  • Teach and conduct research in the field of materials science and engineering.
Requirements
  • An earned doctorate degree in Engineering or the Physical Sciences.
  • Demonstrated scholarship commensurate with a full professor.
  • Extensive record of scholarly achievements and publications.
  • Substantial experience obtaining grants and/or contracts.
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing research relationships and partnerships.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Considerable experience managing faculty, staff, budget, and other resources.
  • Able to work closely and productively with team members.
