Job Description

Themis Recruit is seeking a qualified lawyer with a minimum of 2 years PQE, currently at mid-level Associate to Senior Associate, to join their team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Shipping Disputes, with specific Maritime Legal Transport experience being a plus.

The role involves advising clients throughout the physical transport chain, with an emphasis on maritime regulations, environmental compliance, decarbonisation, ESG, and alternative sustainable maritime fuels and technologies. Our client has deep expertise in maritime law and a thorough understanding of the maritime market, covering dry shipping, admiralty, crisis management, and transactional matters.

Our clients range from shipowners and charterers to P&I Clubs, banks, international agencies, shipyards, marine insurance underwriters, governments, and brokers. Due to continued success, our client is now expanding their leading Sustainable Maritime Legal Transport practice, focusing on decarbonisation, low carbon/net zero fuels, and sustainable (ESG) practices.

This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic team dedicated to providing innovative solutions in a rapidly evolving maritime landscape. The successful candidate will be qualified in England and Wales, with experience handling disputes in the English High Court and arbitration. Familiarity with physical transport contracts and knowledge of global and regional regulations affecting the maritime sector are also essential.

Requirements
  • Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 2 years PQE, currently at mid-level Associate to Senior Associate.
  • Strong experience in Shipping Disputes, with specific Maritime Legal Transport experience being a plus.
  • Familiarity with physical transport contracts and experience handling disputes in the English High Court and arbitration.
  • Qualified in England and Wales.
  • Desirable knowledge of global and regional regulations affecting the maritime sector.
  • Experience with fuel/bunker disputes is a plus.
  • Excellent drafting skills.
  • Motivated and enthusiastic, thriving in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong client engagement and business development skills, with a willingness to contribute to practice and business development activities.
