Pertemps Network Group is looking for an experienced Deaf Education Specialist to join a specialist school for deaf students in Haringey. This role involves working across the school's two sites, ensuring students can fully access the curriculum and thrive in their education.

About the Role

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong British Sign Language (BSL) skills and experience working with deaf students in a school setting. As a Deaf Education Specialist, you will provide vital support to students, facilitating communication between students, teachers, and peers using BSL.

You will adapt learning materials and resources to suit individual student needs, work collaboratively with teachers and other staff to deliver an inclusive education, and promote a positive and supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and group communication support for students across the primary and secondary sites.
  • Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers using British Sign Language (BSL).
  • Adapt learning materials and resources to suit individual student needs.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and other staff to deliver an inclusive education.
  • Support students' social and emotional development, encouraging independence and confidence.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, sharing updates with teachers and parents.
Requirements
  • A Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in British Sign Language (BSL) is essential.
  • Previous experience as a Communication Support Worker or Teaching Assistant in a school or similar setting is required.
  • A good understanding of the needs of deaf students and strategies for effective communication.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to build strong relationships with students and staff.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
